Out of the Blue and Into the Black

Pure Speculation is now up at Smashwords. It is around 50 pages of poetry and short stories, and like Dear Editor it is available for $0.99.

As interesting an experiment at this is, I am already feeling a bit tired from it. Smashwords' marketing guide would have me flog these books through every possible contact I have. They would have me rejoin Twitter, and send emails to everyone I know. That, to me, is more work than I want to put into this.

These two books are now out for posterity. Hopefully a few people will find them and enjoy them.

There are so many books out there, these are really just drops in the ocean. If something more comes of it than 20 or 30 people browsing these titles, then great. I'm mostly interested in writing some new stuff at this point.

But seriously, there will be more of this (self e-publishing) stuff in the future. It is possible that within five years e-books will outsell paper-based books by a wide margin.

And anyway, nearly nobody is actually doing this with the expectation of getting paid.

Dear Editor is my first (and so far only) novel. It is around 50,100 words long and is available for $0.99 through Smashwords.

This is some real indie-writer stuff right here.

I'll be putting up a collection of stories and poems over the next few days. Haven't decided if I'll charge money for it yet.

And of course the Republic of Naught is up there already. I have no idea how many of times that's been downloaded. I hesistate to mention it now, cause it's kind of well... bad. But you know, the price is right.

Jesse is the name of band from Sunderland, UK (1995-98)(or thereabouts).

It is also the name of a 48-page collection of poems I finished writing a couple of weeks back.

This is my idea of "small-town Atlantic Canadian noir movie written as a series of poems".

In other words it's obscure as f*%k, but hopefully a few people out there might enjoy it.

There's a script that goes along with this and everything.

*My real objective with this collection, as with all my stuff, is to self-publish the lot of it when I am retired. Who knows what the publishing world / internet will even look like in 15-20 years? So why not write a collection of interlinked narrative poetry? I'm OK with the fact that I will probably have to work a real job for the remainder of my life.

There's another collection in the works. It's scifi. And another planned after that. And then hopefully I'll get back to writing fiction again.

Also: I recieved the contrib copy of Artifice 4 and it is pretty neat. A small orange digest filled with some pretty funky poems and stories.

And: apparently the new Star*Line is out. Still haven't recieved the contrib copy, but I have a good feeling about it.

Killed my Twitter account, and am about to do the same with FaceBook. Feels great. There's too much info_junk out there. Including this.

This has nothing to do with a new story called Minotaur that's up at Scissors & Spackle.

And the latest edition of Hungur with my story Drifters in the Void is out there now.

I said to hell with NaNoWriMo (again) this year. I'm writing a fifty-page poem instead. Figure it stands about the same likelihood of getting published.

Oh and I think Artifice 4 with my ACDC story is either out or will be out pretty soon.
